Scholars who completed their doctorate less than twelve (12) years ago, already have their own research profile and are working at least at the level of Assistant Professor or Junior Research Group Leader or have a record of several years of independent academic work may apply. This fellowship allows its fellow to carry out long-term research project (6-18 months) at a host institution in Germany.

The fellowship is worth 3,150 EUR per month. This includes a mobility lump sum and a contribution towards health and liability insurance. Additional benefits: allowance for research costs 800 EUR per month (for natural sciences and engineering) and 500 EUR per month (for humanities and social sciences), language fellowship, lump sum for return travel expenses, family allowance for family members, Europe allowance for research at a research institute in another European country, and an extensive alumni sponsorship.

Scholars in the humanities or social sciences and physician must have a good knowledge of German if it is necessary to carry out the project successfully, otherwise a good knowledge of English, scientist and engineers must have a good knowledge of German or English.

There is no closing date for submitting applications. Applications are processed as part of an ongoing procedure. Selection committee meetings take place three times a year, in March, July and November. Applications should be submitted at least four to seven months ahead of the prospective selection meeting.
