Information for Guests

The 2016 Graduate Division commencement ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 18, at 4 p.m., on the Faculty Club Green (map). Tickets are not required to attend the Commencement ceremony. Guests do not need to reserve seating. Seats are on a first-come basis. The Graduate Division Commencement Ceremony is the last ceremony of the day. The ceremony before ours will be leaving at approximately 3:15 p.m.

Tented Area

At the rear of the Faculty Club Green there will be tented areas for guests who are sun-sensitive, elderly, and/or disabled.  More information regarding Commencement Accessibility, alternate viewing locations, and web streaming can be found here:

International Students

International students may request an official "Letter of Invitation" to assist their parents and family in obtaining a visa to attend the commencement ceremony. Contact the Graduate Division for details.


There are no parking fees collected during commencement weekend. Due to the impact on parking during Commencement weekend, we ask you to follow the signs and park in designated parking areas as directed by parking staff.

The Graduate Division Commencement Ceremony is the last ceremony of the day. The ceremony before ours will be leaving at approximately 3:15 p.m. Family and friends should plan their arrival accordingly as the roads will be more congested the closer they park to the Faculty Club Green (Lot 22). The traffic congestion decreases the further you park from the Commencement site (Lots 27 and 30).

Disability Parking 
Accessible parking is available for disabled and elderly persons near most venues in many parking structures and lots. Parking spaces will be available for vehicles with disabled placards or license plates in Lot 23.

A program featuring the order of events for the ceremony will be available at the commencement site on the day of the ceremony. 


Students and their families wishing to eat at a local restaurant after the ceremony are urged to plan ahead and reserve early. It is recommended that you make reservations at 7:15 p.m. or later for Sunday night.

Wear layered clothing and comfortable shoes. The late-afternoon sun can be hot and the glare can be intense. It is recommended that you bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen if you are sun sensitive. Since UCSB is located on the beach, as the sun sets it may get chilly or overcast. A light jacket is recommended.
