Dissertations Sold Through Third Parties
Once you have filed your dissertation with the Graduate Division, one copy is sent to ProQuest to be released for online viewing and for purchase on the ProQuest website. ProQuest also distributes these documents to third parties, such as Amazon.com and Google Scholar, for sale as well.
If you would prefer not to see your work distributed for sale to the public then you can request that ProQuest place a restriction on your dissertation. ProQuest can restrict sales through third parties, such as Amazon.com and Google, but allow sales to the academic community through their traditional, direct channels.
If you are electronically filing a copy of your dissertation and would like to request a restriction on the distribution of your document to third parties you can do so by stating your request in the “Notes to Administrator” section of the electronic filing process.
If you are not electronically filing your dissertation but instead are choosing to submit two hardcopies of your dissertation to the Graduate Division and would like to make the same request, then you can do so by writing a short letter/memo addressed to ProQuest requesting the restriction of the distribution of your document to third parties. At the time of your filing, bring this letter/memo to the Graduate Division.
