Academic Services
Graduate Division Handbook
At UCSB, graduate students have access to our innovative, interdisciplinary graduate programs and to our faculty, who continue to earn recognition across the nation and around the world. The quality and breadth of graduate education at UC Santa Barbara is stronger than ever before.
In order to maximize the benefits of the experience here at UC Santa Barbara, students must dedicate some time to learning how to navigate the institutional supports available. The Graduate Handbook serves as a reference guide for UCSB graduate students regarding academic opportunities, expectations, support services, guidelines, and procedures. The Handbook also provides a summary of academic policies and procedures to aid Graduate Advisors and Graduate Program Assistants in their important work on behalf of UCSB.
Knowledge of the contents of this handbook will assist students in working with faculty and staff to promote progress through the milestones of a graduate career. We encourage students to have frequent conversations with faculty and staff advisors about program expectations.
Meeting the challenges of higher education in these changing times requires dedicated collaboration among faculty, staff, and students. Our shared goal is to foster a rewarding teaching and research environment for graduate education. The Graduate Division draws inspiration from partnerships with students and faculty and is eager to address needs and advance opportunities as they arise. In keeping with the University of California mission, we promote professional development to prepare graduate students to assume leadership positions in academia, private industry, and public service.
The Graduate Division pledges support and assistance as we work together to shape the future of graduate education at UCSB.
Sincerely,
Gale Morrison, Dean, Graduate Division
