Graduate Peer Advisors |

UC Santa Barbara graduate students, both current and prospective, can take advantage of the services provided by the experienced graduate student peer advisors. These positions are housed in the Graduate Division, and although they take different approaches and address different audiences, they also work together to provide a comprehensive series of services for the graduate community. These unique positions exist in order to ensure a rewarding and high quality graduate school experience. They complement one another in that they each promote graduate student success. Diversity Peer Mario G. Galicia, Jr. Mario G. Galicia, Jr. is a graduate student in the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education with an emphasis in Cultural Perspectives. Mario was born in Los Angeles but was raised in San Bernardino. Mario transferred from RCC-Moreno Valley and in 2008 received a double BA from UC Santa Barbara in Sociology and Chicana/o Studies. His research interests include intervention programs, migrant education, urban education, identity formation, urban ethnography, qualitative research methodology, program evaluation, as well as college preparation and support programs for underrepresented youth and their communities. Mario's current research focuses on a longitudinal study of a local gang and intervention program. Mario has also worked in various student services departments, both at the community college and UCSB, including Financial Aid, Educational Opportunity Program and the Admissions Office for Transfer Services. |
Funding Peer Courtney Gosnell Courtney Gosnell s a fifth year graduate student in the Psychology department, pursuing her PhD in Social Psychology, with an emphasis in Human Development. She grew up in Houston, TX and earned her Bachelor's degree from Clemson University in South Carolina (Go Tigers!) before heading to UCSB. Her research interests focus on interpersonal relationships. Specifically, she has been examining how underlying motivation, emotional expression, and support provision (in both good times and bad) impact romantic relationship outcomes. As funding peer, Courtney strives to create more funding resources for graduate students here at UCSB and aid them in their efforts to seek and obtain funding. |
Academic Peer Torrey Trust Torrey Trust
is a 1st year graduate student in the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education. She is pursuing a PhD in Education (Teaching & Learning). She grew up in San Diego and earned her BA in Visual Arts from UC San Diego and MA in Educational Technology from San Diego State University. Her research interests focus on the use of technology as a learning tool. |
