Changes to a Student's Degree Objective
Students who want to add into or drop one or more degree objectives must use a Graduate Student Petition to do so. Graduate Student Petitions are also to be used if a student is thinking about adding or changing an emphasis or Interdisciplinary Program within their degree objectives.
Process for Adding Into a New Degree Program
If you want to add into a new degree program, you will need to fill out a Graduate Student Petition and bring it over to the Graduate Division. The Graduate Division will send your petition first to the new department you want to add into for their review. If that department approves the petition, they will send it back to the Graduate Division, who will then send it to your current department to alert them of the changes to your degree objective.
Process for Adding/Changing Degree Emphasis or Interdisciplinary Program
When adding or changing an emphasis within your department or to one of the Interdisciplinary Programs offered at UCSB, you will need to fill out a Graduate Student Petition and have it be signed by both the Departmental Graduate Advisor and by the Faculty Advisor for that new emphasis or Interdisciplinary Program you are adding.
