Intercampus Exchange Program (IEPGS)
The purpose of the Intercampus Exchange Program for Graduate Students (IEPGS) is to provide access during Fall, Winter, or Spring quarter to courses at another University of California campus not ordinarily available at UCSB. IEPGS allows eligible graduate students from the "home campus" - UCSB - to visit another UC campus - the "host campus" - for one quarter at a time to take classes in their major or language courses not available at UCSB. UCSB students may also use facilities or resources not available at UCSB or study with a professor in their field at another UC campus as long as they are enrolled in independent study units at the host campus through IEPGS.
IEPGS is normally used to supplement the classes and faculty-student relationships that comprise the core of students' graduate education at UCSB. Students may not take courses at another UC campus through IEPGS unless there is direct academic relevance to their major.
Applicants to IEPGS must have good academic credentials and cannot use IEPGS as a "back door" to a campus that previously denied them admission.
This program is limited only to the other UC campuses. Ideal candidates for IEPGS are highly qualified master's or doctoral students who wish to work on a third or fourth field, enroll in specialized language courses, or conduct specialized research at another UC cam??pus. The applicant should be in good academic standing, with a cumulative GPA above 3.0. The UCSB student must have completed at least one year of successful graduate study at UCSB (the Graduate Division may not process a petition not meeting this requirement).
Note that students enrolled in programs that are financially self-supporting cannot participate in intercampus exchange (since the host university program is funded through State support).
The courses completed, as well as the grade points earned, will be transmitted by the Registrar at the host campus to the UCSB Registrar. Classes taken on the other campus appear on the UCSB transcript, including a notation that the student attended another UC using intercampus exchange. Grades earned at the host school--including failing grades--are figured into the student's UCSB grade point average.
In addition, students who are assigned an Incomplete or an In-Progress grade at the host campus are responsible for the timely completion of the coursework, and must ensure that the instructor turns in the final grade once the work has been completed. In some cases, the student must ask the host campus to send an updated transcript to UCSB. Students should continue to check their UCSB transcript thru GOLD to verify any updated grades. Again, contact Graduate Division if you experience problems.
