Neeli Tummala, Ph.D. candidate for Electrical and Computer Engineering

"As many grad students do, I came to UCSB intending to pursue my Ph.D. with a specific advisor and lab. However, I was able to explore other areas of engineering through my courses, special topics seminars and talks, and interactions with my professors and peers, which allowed me to switch labs and pursue a topic that is more fulfilling and exciting to me. Throughout this process, I was fortunate to have responsive and supportive ECE administrative staff and faculty advisors to guide me. In addition, I became a teaching assistant for several undergraduate ECE courses, which allowed me to further develop as a researcher and mentor, as well as to solidify my understanding of fundamental engineering concepts. Most importantly, I am able to cultivate a rich and fulfilling life outside of academia and research that allows me to thrive as a graduate student."
