"My research interests focus on the development of methodological tools using natural language processing and computer vision so as to help advance our understanding of phenomena such as prejudice, xenophobia, and conflict in multiple media formats. These interests are inherently interdisciplinary and often draw from literature in communication, technology, and neuroscience. What I love about the Communication Department is that there is a strong support network for students doing research situated at the intersections of multiple methodological (or even theoretical) domains. We are encouraged to discover the answers to our questions no matter which toolkit we choose to use. The faculty here is stellar and holds expertise across different domains. They actively share their experiences with young researchers and guide them through the transition into our wider scholarly community. I never feel alone in this process (and that is something really hard to say about graduate programs in general). I resonate with the spirit of inclusivity and `research at the frontiers' that is found here at the Communication Department at UCSB and I can't imagine fitting in better anywhere else."
