Welcome  

The Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC), located in Room 1215 in the Student Resource Building, is a dedicated space for graduate students to study, connect, and access support throughout their academic journey. As part of the Graduate Division's Professional Development unit, the GSRC serves as a central hub for resources, programming, and peer support.

What You'll Find at the GSRC

  • Quiet Study Space: Open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the academic year, the GSRC provides a welcoming environment for focused writing, studying, and individual work. We're stocked with a Nespresso machine and snacks to keep you fueled.
  • Peer Support & Resource Navigation: Connect with our Graduate Student Peer Advisors to learn about funding opportunities, campus resources, professional development programs, and ways to get involved in the graduate community.
  • Career Support: Make an appointment with Maya Hargens, Career Services Specialist for Graduate Students, for guidance on career exploration, professional development, and job search strategies.
  • Community & Connection: Throughout the year, the Professional Development Team hosts workshops, drop-in hours, and opportunities to meet fellow graduate students and campus partners. We'll also connect you with Organizations for Graduate Students on campus to help you find a community that feels like home.
     

Whether you're looking for a quiet place to work, have questions about campus resources, or simply want a space to connect with other graduate students, we hope you'll make the GSRC part of your UCSB experience.

Dr. Grace Kimball
Assistant Director of Professional Development

Grace manages the daily operations of the GSRC, Graduate Student Newsletter, Grad Slam, Orientation, Grad Success Series, and certificate programs. She leads programs and workshops on public speaking, leadership, and career development. Grace also mentors a team of Graduate Peers in the GSRC.

Maya Hargens
Assistant Director of Graduate Career Education

Maya provides career counseling to graduate students. She specializes in job document review, and enjoys helping students recognize and articulate their potential in applications, interviews, and networking. Maya also oversees the Graduate Student Internship Fellowship program and the Graduate Career Peer.

Mallory Woods
Graduate Programming Peer

Mallory coordinates and supports professional development events such as New Graduate Student Orientation, Grad Slam, and the Leadership Certificate Program. She fosters campus partnerships by engaging with campus committees and representing graduate student and postdoctoral interests across departments. Mallory also assists with daily operations at the Graduate Student Resource Center.

Engagement & Funding Peer

Christina coordinates and supports professional development events such as New Graduate Student Orientation, Grad Slam, and the Leadership Certificate Program. She also offers funding information to students through drop-in hours, the Funding Newsletter, and workshops.

Mary Michael
Outreach Peer
Ph.D. Candidate in Film & Media Studies

Mary collaborates with students and staff to create inclusive, resourceful, and representative spaces for students who are historically underserved (ie. BIPOC students, LGBTQ+ students, low-income students, undocumented students, non-traditional students, students with disabilities, and others). They also serve as the Chicanx/Latinx Peer Advisor for undergraduate students.
